Whittingham Memorial Institute was built in 1925 as a memorial to those from the area who died in the1914 -18 World War and has recently undergone a major refurbishment thanks to a Big Lottery Grant of £185,000.
The refurbishment includes:- a new roof over the supper room; raising the floor level in the meeting/function room and kitchen area to make the rear of the building accessible to everyone; new accessible toilet facilities; new ladies and gentlemen's toilet facilities; new kitchen; replacing all external windows with double glazed units; rewiring the building; new infra-red heaters throughout the building; decorating the entire building.
The village hall offers a host of new, modern facilities and will be available for:

Hall Features
The size and layout of Whittingham Memorial Institute make it an ideal choice for private and business functions.

Heating:- Available throughout the hall.
Facilities:- The refurbished kitchen will offer modern facilities including fridge, cooker, dishwasher and accessible cooker. There will also be new Ladies and Gents toilets and an accessible toilet.
The stage has microphones, lighting and floodlights suitable for productions and concerts.
Equipment:- There is a good supply of chairs and tables and there is ample crockery and cutlery available.
Access:- After the refurbishment the hall will all be on one level with access for wheelchair users.
Parking:- There is limited parking available in front of the hall.

SAFEGUARDING POLICY
This statement of policy and procedures
applies to users of, and activities in Whittingham Memorial Institute
(WMI), and any ancillary activities which are the responsibility of
Whittingham Memorial Institute.
The policy is in place to protect all children and vulnerable adults
regardless of gender, ethnicity, disability, sexuality, religion or
faith.
PRINCIPLES
The welfare of the child or vulnerable
adult is paramount and is the responsibility of everyone. All children
and vulnerable adults have the right to protection from abuse, whether
physical, verbal, sexual, bullying, exclusion or neglect.
POLICY STATEMENT
All people associated with the Memorial Institute and its use have
a responsibility for safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults.
The Whittingham Memorial Institute Committee will endeavour to keep
the premises safe for use.
No members of the WMI Committee, outside contractors, hirers or volunteers
will have unsupervised access to children or vulnerable adults unless
in possession of appropriate clearance such as DBS, and have undergone
appropriate Child Protection Training.
The WMI Committee will ensure that all hirers/users of Whittingham
Memorial Institute are aware that any safeguarding of children or
vulnerable adults is the responsibility of the hirers. Hirers need
to be aware that if hiring only part of the building, they may be
sharing the toilets with other users and that appropriate supervision/arrangements
should be put in place.
The WMI Committee will ensure that hirers are made aware of their
obligations under the Licensing Act 2003 to ensure that alcohol is
not sold to those under the age of 18 and that no children may be
admitted to films when they are below the age classification for the
film or show.
Acceptance of the Whittingham Memorial Institute’s safeguarding
policy is part of the agreed contract taken out on hiring the building.
A copy of this policy is available in the policy folder in the Institute
and will be reviewed annually after the AGM. The WMI’s Safeguarding
